CAMBRIDGE, MA—The now infamous hockey dad, Thomas Junta, was sentenced six to 10 years in prison on Friday for beating to death another father after their sons’ pickup ice hockey game.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Charles Grabau sentenced Thomas Junta, a 275-pound truck driver, to twice the minimum sentence guidelines in the killing of Michael Costin after the two men brawled in front of their children and others at a suburban Boston ice rink on July 5, 2000.

Thomas Orlandi, Junta’s lawyer, described the fistfight as “mutual combat”, and in a press conference following the trial stated he would appeal the decision saying the sentence was “too harsh” and that Junta only deserved “two ten minute fighting majors” for the incident.
