WASHINGTON, DC—According to The Bergen Record newspaper, the fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha, which counted Dr. King as a member, wants to build a monument to him in the Washington Mall. The King family, however, has some reservations and is tightly controlling any and all projects involving the King name.

Apparently the King family is charging for a licensing agreement in order for the Alphas to proceed with their project touting it as a “management issue” and that “any funds we receive from this agreement will go toward supporting the King Center’s mission.”

In a related story, the King family has confronted the National Audubon Society demanding “licensing agreements” to use the names king fisher, king cobra and king snake, to name a few.
